Address poisoning is a sophisticated scam currently impacting approximately 5% of daily blockchain transactions. This deceptive technique has drained millions from unsuspecting users, with individual losses reaching as high as $80 million.

The attack is deceptively simple: scammers monitor public ledgers for active, high-value wallets. Once a target is identified, they generate a "vanity" address that mirrors the first and last characters of your own. They then send a negligible amount of cryptocurrency from this spoofed address to your wallet.

The goal is to pollute your transaction history with an address that looks almost identical to yours. When you later copy an address from your history to initiate a transfer, you may inadvertently select the attacker's wallet. By bypassing rigorous verification, you essentially "gift" your funds to the scammer. Always verify every character of a destination address before confirming any transaction.

If you’ve had money transferred to your wallet, you’ve almost certainly already received similar transactions, and if you haven’t encountered this yet, please be on your guard.

I’d also like to add to this discussion that scammers are sending out a huge number of NFTs and new coins under the guise of airdrops. Under no circumstances should you click on the links in the descriptions of these tokens, as you may be asked to connect your wallet to receive the airdrop, and all your money will be stolen.
