For some unusual reason a lot of people don't do this and you should because this is vital for your opsec and order integrity.

How do you do this?

It's simple. Ask for a signed message and verify it through your pgp software. If it's invalid, then they are not who they claim to be. Otherwise you are in the clear and can proceed to sending your encrypted info. Check whoever it is you are talking to's key. Make sure it aligns, and never communicate sensitive information without encrypting your data and taking these precautions.

Why should you do this?

1. To verify who you are communicating with

2. To prevent scams

3. To protect yourself AND the vendor

Other important details:

* A vendor will likely NEVER operate multiple accounts. Ask questions and verify your information. If something feels off then cancel your order or choose a different vendor.

* If a customer is pulling a scam on you (aka: "i ordered from your other account and..."): you have your pgp signature to protect you and argue your innocence. Use it.

* If a customer sends you their data in clear text, correct it. This could be detrimental for both sides. One weak link breaks the whole chain.

* In any event a market is seized and your information is in clear text; you might be fucked. This is preventable.

It's ridiculous that this is not a common practice. Do yourself and your vendor a favor and put some effort into your opsec.

Actually a lot of vendors do operate multiple accounts.

But will never solicit you or deal with you from both accounts at one instance. Which is why it's instructed to ask questions and verify the information in that scenario. Even if it is genuine, it's better to be certain than to risk yourself and your money. I've seen plenty of people fall for this unfortunately. Seems like common sense but there's always a handful of people.
