bfu is when you restart/turn on your phone and you haven't unlocked it yet?
Damn man, don't give them the code under any circumstances. They could technically open it (if it's in AFU) with tools like Cellebrite but it could take weeks. Next time don't do work on an iPhone.
check cellebrite UFED they could drag your case out a year to see if cellebrite comes up with an exploit. its hard to say but UFED dumps are a thing
Next time just stay in a Holday Inn Express the night before.
Situationships like this mean a helluva lot less when you preface it with that.

Thank you AngieJ, i believe you and i hope they will not open it. Cheers :D
BFU (Before First Unlock), at least on iPhone, is when your phone hasn't had its' first security checked passed. This is usually after a restart, and before you enter your pin/password. You can't use biometrics yet because you phone hasn't decrypted the fingerprint or face scan data yet. That's also why you can't see contacts in this state either. Your contacts list hasn't been decrypted, so text message notifications just appear as a phone number. AFU (After First Unlock) is when all the important information is decrypted, and keys are stored in memory. When you lock it in this state, you're essentially just putting up a page that needs your pin to go away. It's usually less secure because your password isn't doing anything. It's just being compared against the codes in memory to check if it should let you in.
This is a massive oversimplification, and I implore you to read up more if this interests you.

If you have the latest firmware and set the anti theft features and some other security features which I can't recall now, you should be ok.
In Germany afaik they can not force you to reveal your PIN.
