So I basically broke my laptop because I had been dealing with a client for the past 6 months, and he scammed me. He sent me a piece of software that we were planning to launch on the App Store. After months of planning, meetings, and coding discussions, he finally sent me a “demo version.”
I was dumb and didn’t check the source code or run it on a burner laptop. I opened it directly on my main machine while logged into my main account. It turned out he had put malware in it. He got access to my laptop, drained all of my wallets at once, and disappeared.
So now I’m broke again.
What pisses me off the most is that I’m familiar with this type of scam, and I actually know how to protect myself.
As long as you're not close to the developer, always use a VM for unknown apps, and a debugger, if you somewhat know the person you're dealing with and you know they're smart you can use something like a Malware Scarecrow, disguises your machine as a VM in some aspects, most viruses have checks if they're inside a VM

even if you close with the developer, you can never know, be paranoid
the more mistakes you make the more knowledge you gain! Even tho it hurts now we´ve all been thru it and i bet you´ll go more far with this knowledge
