Yeah, you can definitely run your own .onion if you want to learn. I’m doing something similar on my side, just experimenting with a small Raspberry Pi and keeping everything as simple as possible.

For databases, it doesn’t have to be complicated — even a small local database works fine for basic projects. The key is to start minimal and understand how things connect before adding more features.

I’m not trying to scale or advertise anything, just learning how hosting, backend, and Tor services behave when you control everything yourself. Starting small and boring is honestly the best way to avoid mistakes early on.

I didn't give out the onion address to anyone. I had the website running in one VM and Tor running in another one. I just wanted to see if I could get it to work. It did on my first try. I impressed myself. I didn't impress anyone else.
