Even though those platforms are so popular, it's to much information to process, sometimes I end up wondering whether I was being fed that same garbage as them. This gen can consume so much information but get stupid as times goes, and most of them actually believe what they see without questioning it. It's like feeding pigs, they eat, grow big and strong but never ask why "free" ? and pay with they're meat (pork). You'll still need to lost something you took for granted before realizing that nothing is truly free.
We'll I guess that's a start for paranoia, but understandable, I've been using tails for a while now and I genuinely like it. VPN don't do much anymore, and that too feels like a joke, use 'VPN to stay anonymous' people actually believe that.
Smart phones?? They should be considered tracking device at this point, computers are honestly better than those unless you're fine with doing nasty stuff to you phone, and all those companies that sells you're data, people complain, talk and try to fight but no use. Apple is probably the only one who won't give you're data to feds. But if they starts too then well at least they tried, most companies just open everything up to them.
Using Tor correctly is the only way, but that can only keep you safe for a while, won't help much if you go around telling everyone who you are.

For example, a user sees a duck on the river and thinks the police have placed a camera in the duck to watch him.

I feel that VPNs never made anyone truly anonymous. VPNs are hosted by third party servers or VPS that can and will sell your data. If VPNs actually gave privacy and anonymity, the government would of outlawed them or at least limit them by now. VPNs can be private, if you use Mullvad and use a server hosted by Mullvad preferably in Sweden or other places that have good privacy laws. But the problem is that some VPNs may cause problems higher latency for online gaming, or dealing with being blocked. But if you want to stay anonymous on smaller platforms that don't block VPNs then yes you can have some privacy with a VPN. I've noticed that Mullvad US servers get blocked less on social media, but Sweden ones always get blocked.
Are you really paranoid?
And do you you use illegal substances?
Do you have things your hiding?

"No matter how paranoid you are, what they're actually doing is worse than you can possibly imagine."

It's also very frustrating, but regardless I don't law is a thin line and government cross it all the time. No sure about recent changes right now, but still the same thing, getting searched without warrant or something similar, sure I get that you can mostly decline but you'll have to know you're stuff to be able too. Think of telling someone to share their password, so you can help them fix the error on their account, some people would actually do that.
I still do think that Sweden laws doesn't really protect you that much, unless feds doesn't show interest in you're personal data. This also brings me to think that all country that have extradition treaty with US are red flags and should be avoided, still just a personal opinion.
And the world still a little behind, especially because people keep getting dumb with time. No one wants to truly learn, if it works it works.and AI slops are getting everywhere, I actually get why people would use it, I do it too, but I hate people that claim the work when it's obviously AI who did it. But it'll only some people will actually understand it, the errors that AI makes are nasty. Been working on a certain project group, and someone turns up the next day saying he built everything, the code clearly looks AI generated, and he can't even explain the design choices and code itself. I've even stopped wasting my energy on people like that, if it breaks you'll just face consequences yourself. And the funny part the text 'AI can make mistakes' is always present on the chat but their ignore it. Seems like convenience is something people can't live without.
