How to use session w/Tails OS + Common bugs and Fixes (2025)

Install Session & Setup

1) Install Session from the official website.

2) Move Session over to your persistent folder

3) Right Click Session > Properties > Mark as executable as program.

4) Open Terminal

5) Enter the path and version of session it is in with this command:

torify /home/amnesia/Persistent/session-desktop-linux-x86_64-1.14.4.AppImage

Save your recovery phrase in Keepass or similar

How to fix freeze/crash when closing tails.

When closing session it will cause tails to freeze most of the time. Close it this way to prevent Tails from crashing.

1) Open 'system monitor'

2) type "session" into search bar.

3) select the 2nd "session-desktop"

4) End process > repeat till session closes.

This doesn't work anymore? torify command gives me permission denied even when using sudo.

It just worked for me

Turns out it was not just Open Terminal like the instructions say. I had to open it inside the same folder where the AppImage was.

There is a problem tho, when I restart Tails nothing is saved. And I have to enter again the recovery password everytime. Any Solution?
