If I turn on mullvadVPN on my debian host system which has my whonix VMs on it and boot the whonix vms so that I can access internet through tor, will I connect to the tor entry node through mullvad VPN?
I know people may argue not to use tor with VPN but there is a extremely high chance mullvad VPN isn't keeping any logs. This isn't about hiding my tor connection from ISP, it's about a failsafe in case tor timing attacks or guard node discovery attacks happen. MullvadVPN will be a potential failsafe. If the mullvadVPN server I chose is popular and has a lot of users on it, it would be harder to determine which individual is responsible.

Yes you will be able to.
The caveat is if you're connecting from different locations as you should be, for example various different public wifi's and LTE routers, you'll be linking the sessions together through your vpn account, if you go that route
