One of my friend was watching videos on youtube about how to install Qubes OS plus some basic hacking stuff

Few hours later, he was apprehended by the local cops and still in custody since a week..

is it even possible?

It's not illegal to watch YouTube. What did he get arrested for? You can check your local sheriff's office website for a list of his charges.

i mean having information isnt illegal, acting on it is. the youtube vids are perfectly legal - it's what he does with them

You cannot get arrested for watching YouTube, there was for sure something else going on.

turned out, there's been major hack for a big companies, copsjust wants to show they're doing their work so arrested a suspect as him

crazy..!!
