Connecting USB drive to an untrusted computer

If I connected my USB flash drive to an untrusted library computer (windows 10) just to copy some files.

Is it safe to just plug it to my computer (linux) or there are some safety measures should I take first?

And If I connected it without mounting, Can anything happen?

We have no idea if your Windows 10 install is compromised in any way from your post. So any answers of this will be ambiguous.

Now im curious as to what exactly your copying to usb at the library... hmmmm

More than likely, yes. If you're worried about the library computer copying the wrong files, not copying anything at all, or modifying the files, just exercises some common sense. Treat it as if you were downloading a file, and take the necessary steps to ensure the file doesn't have a virus or anything. You can't do much about the computer refusing to copy, but use your brain to keep a virus away.

As usual, it depends on your threat model. You're almost certainly safe in reality, but theoretically if you want to be super conspiracy-theory level paranoid you shouldn't plug that USB into anything again because it's possible - and I use the word "possible" very loosely indeed here - that some kind of malware got into the USB stick firmware, which could then exploit a vulnerability in the USB drivers of another computer you plug it in to. So the answer is yes, something can happen, but no, in reality nothing will happen.
