is it safe to use an e mail id I created from clearnet by proton mail. If not what are some free mail services that ensure 100% anonymity and what are some often op sec failures that newbie's often commit. please guide as I am new to the community

Definitely not safe if you're converting BTC to XMR and the BTC is proceeds of crime or XMR to BTC and the BTC is going to be used for something illegal. Your exposures are:
Anyone who cares to look knows where the BTC came from or went to and the fact that it went through the exchange.
The exchange knows that the Email address and the BTC and XMR addresses.
ProtonMail will probably tell the police your real IP if they ask.
If you've brought BTC using your real identity and you want to swap it to XMR, then you're fine. The exchange knows who you are already because it's receiving BTC that was brought under your real identity, so you can't hide who you are from them anyway.
There's no Email service you can trust to be anonymous, so if you must have an anonymous Email address you should make it over Tor.
