Girsan Influencer 3.4” 9mm
I have been on the fence on a 1911 style 9mm. I found this for just over 3oo 🥕. Watched the reviews, I know can’t really trust them, haven’t heard a whole lot of bad about them.

Threw an extra holosun I had laying around on it. Headed to range tomorrow to see how it does.

Why are girsan considered to be untrustworthy? I have seen that but I haven't seen anything to back it up. I mean, I have seen just as much about Sigs being unreliable (or overly reliable, as in they work 101% of the time you want them to work), and I have seen numerous complaints about reliability in various smiths, and some glocks (although I would say that glock tends to have the fewest issues from what I have seen. I still don't like them, though). So I'm wondering if those other brands are considered "reliable", why isn't girsan? Like, is there data to back up the claim?

I’m not sure, the majority of people seem to love them. I think it comes down to people bashing Turkish made weapons without ever touching one. When I bought my Canik SC Elite I had so many people tell me it was terrible. It has been very reliable.

My SAR9 has been absolutely reliable.  The only issues I have ever had were:

6 total instances of stovepipes, all with blazer 115, all from the same box (which also caused stovepipes in another gun).

5 failures to feed immediately following me "cleaning" the gun, in the dark, with a brush that was full of grit and grime. After I properly cleaned it, no further issues.

I had 3 instances where federal 147 didn't want to feed properly. This happened literally today, and I think it's due to the feed ramp being dirty and/or the flat nose shape of the bullet. This ammo was also HIGHLY erratic in terms of grouping. So I may have another box of bad bullets, or maybe it just doesn't like fed147. TBD when I take a couple more boxes of the federal to the range.

Every defensive hollow point has fed flawlessly. Steel case 115 and 124? No problem. Weird reloads? Eats them right up. Aluminum is fine. Turkish, Brazilian, Winchester white box, NATO... All of it runs fine.

So in around 2500 rounds, I have had 5 failures caused by me, 6 caused by faulty training ammo, and 3 where I think the gun just maybe doesn't like that particular ammo?

actually be careful, have this exact firearm and the feed ramp lips on the wc mag were so high up, it scratched all the cerakote off the bottom of the slide; had to file down the wc mag. it's a feature on most wc mags bc most production 1911's have a sloppy fit, but these comes pretty ok from the factory/the cerakote is thick
