Home defense doesn’t need any magnification, unless you’ve got a compound not a house.

For civilians, I’d mostly agree with folks that your justification for taking a long shot isn’t clear in most cases outside of the home as well.

Then again, most cases in which a civilian would use a rifle aren’t likely to be during normal periods of time (when CCW is more likely) but more likely during major periods of civil unrest, in which case who knows. But if law and order and your own personal morality are still functioning at all, you’re still going to need to be able to positively identify an imminent deadly threat to you or others. Difficult.

The exception would be an outdoor mass shooter, and you just happen to drive by with your scoped rifle in the trunk, or it happens to take place within sight of your house. You might very well be able to identify who the bad guy is from far away in that specific case, but that’s an exceptionally unlikely scenario in which to find yourself.

potentially also because the LPVO for the KS1 contract guns is a vortex 1-10, an LPVO with notoriously bad 1x performance

a Razor 1-6, TR25 accupoint, PLX-C, and a handful of others will have far better 1x performance nearly (like seriously splitting hairs) on par with a 1x red dot for practical usage

And if you have a good amount of practice with your rifle, if for some reason the battery dies on the dot, at actual self defense ranges, you probably don’t even need the dot, either.

If you have a front sight A frame and your red dot is setup with a lower 1/3 mount, you can use the position of the A frame in the red dot window as a rough alignment aid at very close range. Been there, done that in competition when the dot failed.
