I'd like to create a site on the dark web dedicated to the stuff I find on the internet. So like weird & obscure websites, files(leaks, declassified docs, & more) and other cool shit. Kind of like a mix of a blog & forum. What's a good vetting process for choosing a hosting provider or should I just invest in the equipment to host it myself? OpSec from law enforcement really isnt a concern for me because I don't want share anything illegal. With that being said, what do you recommend? I'm technically savvy & anything outside of my skillset I can go to some people I trust for help. Just looking for opinons

I would stay away from self hosting unless you are an expert in networking/linux.
Why would you self host and risk exposing your IP? it's just a tie to your real identity.

If you are not doing anything illegal and you have nothing to hide, hosting yourself is always better than renting.
Find a hosting service where you can pay with crypto and do everything through Tor
I would suggest you create an anonymous website on the I2P platform, rather than TOR. I2P is easier to setup than TOR and perhaps even safer.
