Secure message delivery networks with mobile devices

Hello fellow market participants,

We hereby invite scientific deliberation about the best messaging
software deployment for security and customer acquisition efficiency
(noob-friendliness) on a mobile device (Pixel phone with Graphene OS).

We have so far identified two prospects:

_XMPP (e.g. 'conversations')

_IRC (no specific software instance so far)

We seek clarity of arguments for considerations like:

_hosting service renting on reputed servers vs self-hosted VPS

_domains (domain name system (DNS), onions, alternative naming systems
(mappings of IP addresses with alternative systems of reference))

IRC Is a bad idea.

XMPP is good, just make sure it's E2EE (using OMEMO or OTR)
