Total noob on Mac

someone told me "run tails on a usb wifi adapter if you have an intel macbook" should i do this? is it hard and or expensive?

Yes you can run Tails on an Intel Mac. Yes this is what you should do. It'll only cost some time and a USB drive.

im not sure i can get burner computer in time before i go to london. Is there any way i could just order with mac os m1 and tor from drug hub? it would only be 1 or 2 pills to london? and if so how would i get a pgp for my account

you should be fine this time. you definitely do want to look into getting a computer with tails or whonix set up if you plan on any further activity though. and im not entirely sure what pgp software is available on regular mac os. i know kleopatra is not which is what most people use. check out "gpg suite" maybe?

I have a Mac with an M4 chip and struggled with how to shop the DN. Previously I had an Intel laptop and ran Tails on a USB stick. After moving to the M4 Mac I struggled to find a new solution. Here is what I have done and it works well. This is a little techy so if you are not proficient in computers this may be a little over your head...here it goes...

I tried using a Tails USB stick on my Mac but it would not boot to the USB stick and Tails doesn't support the M4 architecture in the newer Macs. Tails on a USB stick is the best method since it is encrypted and can be easily destroyed if necessary. So my next best approach was to use emulation on my Mac. After research I found UTM. This is a virtual machine that can run other operating systems on your Mac with Apple silicon. I started with Ubuntu because of solid security, disk encryption and free price. Sadly, Tor doesn't support running in Linux on Apple silicon. Grrrr!!!

Next was to try Windows. This felt less secure but I found an option that I think works. I installed a downloaded image of Windows from the UTM website and told it to install the Enterprise version. This allows for Bitlocker encryption. This is still running without activation and doesn't seem to be an issue. I have not logged it into my MS account and only have a local account setup with a username and password I do not use anywhere else. If I ever have to clean house I will destroy the Mac and dispose of far away from home.

Once I got Windows up and running in UTM I installed a VPN and have it connect using a secure server that is hardened from attack and physically secured from tampering. Yes, these exist. I installed Tor and launch this after the VPN has connected. So at the end of the day I am running Tor, through a VPN, on a copy of Windows running in a VM in UTM on my M4 Mac.

I know some people will ask, "Why not use your old Intel laptop?", or "Why not get a burner laptop?" Well, my old Intel laptop is large and heavy and I do not want to carry it around with my new Mac just to handle DN business. After spending bank on the M4 Mac, I can't justify $ for a burner Intel laptop...and again, I don't want to carry around 2 laptops. I am curious what other folks have done with the newer Apple silicon Macs. Hope this helps!
