It is truly the superior way to use gpg and nothing really beats it's vast features.

But it's sad there are so few full featured GUI options out there and it seems there's always some sort of tradeoff using one or other.

Another thing you can try is the editor Geany. There is a plugin that will allow one to encrypt/decrypt/verify signatures, etc. from within the editor.

Actually I use it extensively to code and I love it.

I'd even say it's one of the main editors I use to develop.

I have a general question regarding copy and paste PGP keys. Copying and pasting PGP keys rather it's sending or receiving, is it possible there is metadata embedded in the PGP program(s) being used?

It is possible, but unlikely. There's a couple of ways you can embed metadata in a key (comments, signature notations /post/fadd5480bb7044067be5). However there is no real good reason to do so. In the particular context of PGP, it would be detrimental to the user's privacy. So. I'd assert you'll be fine as long you use recommended software.

You should consider making a fresh post though. I guess other subscribers could have better insights than me.

TBH I don't really like the portable mode for any software because people will never update them.

There are vendors (yes, vendors) still using gpg4usb which had the latest release in 2016 ffs. Even if we have warnings both on the market and vendor panel they obviously "miss" that and contact us whining about not being able to decrypt certain messages or that customer key is "invalid".

Solid point. I wonder how Gpg4Usb could fuck things up to broke compatibility with GnuPG. Shouldn't happen with RFC4880. Anyway, as a general principle, portable applications definitively don't fit well with regular updates. I'm not sure how FrontendPGP updater manages in portable mode. Maybe I'll give it a try later on.

Gpg4usb does not support EC keys and that's only one thing I can remember right now. Probably it also has a bunch of security issues, it's almost 10 years old.
