How to use Telegram with maximum anonymity?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to understand how to use Telegram as anonymously as possible. I know it's not fully private by default, but I'm wondering what steps I can take to minimize exposure.

I'm especially interested in:

How to create an account without linking it to my real identity (e.g. using burner numbers)

How to avoid leaking my IP address

How to isolate Telegram from other apps and data on my device

Whether using Telegram via Tor/VPN really helps

Any custom ROM or OS setups (like GrapheneOS) that improve privacy

I’m not doing anything illegal – just interested in protecting my digital footprint.

Any detailed advice or best practices would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

first step would be not using telegram, but if you must then create it with a sim you bought with cash or on a DWM. Use tor or Mullvad to hide your IP. If you ever log in with your real IP then delete the account and get a new number. Graphene OS is great if you have a google phone and it comes automatically with a feature to isolate apps from the system, and if you don't have a pixel most android devices would be fine.

You can't. Stop trying to polish a turd. /d/OpSec/wiki/?id=6ce413e9

I would choose to use "Session" over "Telegram" always, because of a few simple reasons:

It's Open Source, it doesn't require you to create an account or put in an telephone number, it has an built in connection over tor.

For me it's I would say the best anonymous messanger for phones also because it's very easy to understand.

Would you recommend using a physical SIM or an eSIM, or does it not really make a difference in terms of anonymity? Thanks for your help. Also, would buying a Telegram account be a viable option, or is that generally considered too risky?
